The state of the Eastern corridor roads from Yendi to Bimbilla is in limbo as the contractors working on them have left the site.

3news.com’s independent investigation revealed that no work was going on at the time of the visit to the site on Wednesday as the contractors were not on site.

The work, which seems abandoned for some reason, has turned some of the roads into  death traps.

The Brazilian contractors had also checked out indefinitely from their hotel in Bimbilla in Nanumba North where they lodged , according to the hotel management.

Residents of some of the areas direct traffic to motorists especially where bridges are left unattended to and made those areas to flood.

Vehicle had it very tough and difficult to locate to a safer place to cross the flooded areas without the help of the residents, who demand some monies from the drivers.

The Municipal Chief Executives for Yendi was said to be in Tamale for official work and was not available for comments.

But the District Chief Executive for Nanumba North Alhaji Muhammad Ibn Abass confirmed the departure of the Brazilians.

He, however, said government is making funds available for the contractors to return to work.

Some residents  who refused to speak on camera expressed their frustrations and said the government either did not have the funds to complete the roads or was using it as bait for 2016 elections.

Children now swim in the flooding water under the bridges whiles other women  fetch the  water for domestic use.

Weeds and grasses have taken over some parts of the road.

The Eastern Corridor Road is supposed to link the Northern and the Southern sector stretching from Damanko in the Volta Region through Bimbilla in the Northern Region to Bawku in the Upper East Region.
