Be responsible for your reportage – Kojo Yankah charges journalists

Prof. Kojo Yankah

Board chairman of TV3 Network Limited Kojo Yankah has charged journalists to be responsible for their reportage ahead of the upcoming November 7 elections.

Ghana goes to the polls this year and there are concerns about the increasing tensions following some unguarded comments by politicians and some journalists on media platforms.

The board chairman of TV3, speaking on the topic ‘Media and Elections’, called on the media to be truthful in their reportage.

“You are going to work just like you normally do as a team and when I say a team, I mean editors, producers, broadcast journalists, presenters, and technicians are all a team because you work for the station, so therefore whatever role that you have to play, you are part of this.

“What is important is that each one of you is responsible for the role that you play in spite of the fact that you work as a team.

“So as you are playing your role, you must know that you first, the station second, the image of Media General in general and know that together you professed to uphold the truth, objectivity, fairness transparency and all those nouns that you’ve been talking about.”

He also advised journalists to expect the tensions, anxiety, fears and suspicions particularly with those in the media, stating that people will just be reading through putting a comb into every word that is said and written in the reportage.

“Knowing the cardinal duties of media men is not enough and you must also consider yourselves as managers of the minds of the people.”

The Managing News Editor for TV3, Beatrice Agyemang Abbey, reiterated the stations commitment to be balanced in its reportage

“It is important to remind ourselves that we have to jealously safeguard our fundamental freedom by ensuring that as journalists, we do not allow ourselves to be influenced by self seeking individuals who would want to perpetuate anarchy for their own interest.”
