Cape Coast to get garment and shoe manufacturing factory

A garment and shoe manufacturing factory is expected to be established in Cape Coast by the end of the year, Central Regional Minister  Kweku Rickett Hagan has announced.

The factory, which is expected to train about 1,500 would also have a training centre where people will be trained for three months in sewing and shoe making.

According to the Regional Minister who is championing the private investment, all equipment for the factory are ready and waiting to be shipped into the country for construction to begin, noting all business plans are ready.

Mr Hagan announced this at the graduation ceremony of some 200 people who completed apprenticeship in sewing and hairdressing in the Cape Coast South Constituency. They were given hairdryers and sewing machine and GHC500 each.

He explained that the factory will take advantage of the African Growth and Opportunity Act to export the products from the factory to the US market.

“God willing the factory will be ready before elections or three months after elections,” Mr Hagan who is also the MP for Cape Coast South said, noting it will create alot of employment opportunities for the people in the area.
