Confusion rocks Akwatia NPP as voters call on Ernest Kumi to step down (WATCH VIDEO)

There is confusion in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akwatia constituency with members split over the choice of parliamentary candidate.

The division happened after the party’s primaries when the incumbent MP, Hon. Mercy Adu-Gyamfi popularly known as Ama Sey lost to Ernest Yaw Kumi.

Ama Sey, who believes the vote was rigged called for a recount but that was rejected. Because of that, some staunch NPP supporters in the constituency have called on Ama Sey to contest as an independent candidate.

In an interview with KwasiAboagyeLive.com, some supporters of the party said they strongly believe Ama Sey has not finished the good work she was doing for the constituency and must be given a second term.

One supporter, Nana Yaw Addo, told this website that it’s either they go for a recount or Ama Sey becomes an independent candidate. He said they were ready to sponsor her financially and would not allow her spend a penny on her campaign.

Mr Kwame Gyekye, an Assemblyman in the area boldly mentioned the NPP’s National Women’s Organizer, Madam Kate Gyamfua, Eastern regional chairman Kingston Akomeng Kissi, constituency chairman Baba Yenkro and two others as the people who made Ama Sey to lose the primaries.

Other voters who spoke with us also said Ernest Kumi must step down as the parliamentary candidate because they won’t vote for him.

Ama Sey beat Baba Jamal with over 5,000 votes to win the seat for the NPP in the 2016 elections while Ernest Yaw Kumi also beat Ama Sey with only 4 votes during the NPP’s primaries.
