Morgan Heritage’s Peetah Passes Away at 46

Peter Anthony Morgan, the lead vocalist of the renowned reggae group Morgan Heritage, which he co-founded with four siblings, passed away at the age of 46, as announced by his family on Sunday.

The family has requested privacy during this difficult time and expressed gratitude in advance for the outpouring of love and support. The social media statement did not disclose the cause of his death.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness shared his sorrow on the X social media platform, describing Morgan’s death as a “colossal loss” for Jamaica and the reggae music community.

Known by the moniker “Peetah,” Morgan was the son of the acclaimed Jamaican reggae artist Denroy Morgan. Morgan Heritage, formed in 1994, earned a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2016 with “Strictly Roots.”

One of his brothers, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, relocated to Tennessee with the mission of introducing reggae to Nashville. Peter Anthony Morgan, or “Peetah,” once explained, “If you follow reggae music and country music, it’s a lot of storytelling. In reggae, we tell the story of people suffering.”

The other founding members of the band were Una Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan.
