Bole Gas Explosion

Nine people are reported dead with several others injured from a gas explosion in the Bole district of the Northern Region.

The nine include the driver and mate of a gas tanker that exploded while struggling to drive over some speed ramps created by residents to reduce overspeeding.

The accident that occurred close to the Tinga Market Sunday,  August 28 saw a gas tanker travelling to the Upper West Region capital of Wa exploding upon reaching the market.

The explosion, according to sources, destroyed several properties within the accident scene.

“I believe the explosion was caused by speed rumps created to reduce speeding vehicles on the road,” the sources said.

An eyewitness narrated: “As the driver struggled to climb the speed ramps, the cylinders in the truck containing the gas exploded.”

The timely intervention of personnel from the Bole District Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading.

Some houses were, however, destroyed.

The injured were rushed to the Tinga Hospital but were later transferred to the Bole Government Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, security personnel have taken over the place.

The police are yet to make an official statement on the incident.
