The atmosphere at the Supreme Court (SC) Monday morning was heavy with security presence in and around the premises ahead of hearing on a contempt case against two Montie FM panellists, a host of the station and its owners.
The surroundings of the Court have been cordoned off from both political party sympathizers and family members of the contemnors.
Supreme Court is being protected by both police and military personnel, who are heavily armed.
The main road leading to the Supreme Court Complex and other roads are dotted with road blocks and armoured vehicles.
Journalists were scrutinized before being allowed to enter the courtroom while dozens of supporters were turned away.
Onua FM’s reporter, Omari Acheampon, reports that the Supreme Court had to call out names of reporters of various media houses before they were allowed entry in the Court room.
The Court is set to determine the fate of two panelists of the Accra-based station, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn as well as the host of Pampaso, Salifu Maase also known as ‘Mugabe’ over contempt comments.
The two panellists, in the presence of the host, allegedly threatened to murder justices of the Court if their ruling on a case challenging the electoral roll brought by a former National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako does not favour the Electoral Commission (EC).
The comment was made on the eve the nation was marking the 34th anniversary of the murder of three High Court judges by some operatives of the erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).
