Obinim under investigation as Gender Ministry reports him to police

Obinim

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has reported the General Overseer of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, to the Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

This follows a video which captured the controversial pastor whipping two members of his congregation for “fornicating”.

The video, which went viral on social media, has provoked many Ghanaians to condemn the pastor.

Bishop Obinim, who has stirred controversy a number of times in the past, was seen in the video whipping the two – whom he claimed to be his wards – with a men’s waist belt.

But on her official Facebook page on Thursday, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Nana Oye Lithur stated that aside DOVVSU investigating the matter, a complaint has been filed against the pastor at the Tema Regional Police Command.

‘Negative commentaries’

Though Bishop Obinim’s action has been widely condemned, the Church has warned the public to desist from making “negative commentaries” on the video.

“We have observed that some people with evil agenda are using the video to castigate and spread false rumors about the Founder and General Overseer of International God’s Way Church,” a statement issued by the Church said.

Bishop Obinim, who had previously declared his powers of turning into any animal, has also come out to explain the incident, trying to convince Ghanaians to accept his action.
